For most students we recommend our Immersion Programs.  Our Immersion Programs focus on addressing the personal needs of the student. The 2 to 1 student teacher ratio has proven to expedite the learning process. Our teaching approach is dynamic and while grammar is an essential part of the learning process, building conversational skills is absolute foremost. Classes are four hours each day and we also offer a Super Immersion program that consists of six hours of Spanish class each day.  Classes are Monday through Friday.

This program is appropriate for those wanting to learn Spanish quickly, and is suitable for adults of all ages.

Students are placed according to their level and abilities with a written and oral test. The Immersion Programs are divided into seven courses:

Beginning Level I

• No previous Spanish knowledge

Beginning Level II

• Very basic skills

Intermediate I

• Able to use present, past and future tenses with an extended vocabulary

Intermediate II

• Able to use imperfect, conditional and compound tenses, with a comfortable level of comprehension

Advanced I

• Proven comprehension and sufficient oral skills to communicate ideas in most situations. A good understanding and use of the indicative mood

Advanced II

• Some knowledge of the subjunctive mood, enhanced oral and comprehensive skills, and an expanded vocabulary

High Advanced

• Possess advanced communication skills and the ability to use both the indicative and subjunctive moods with relative comfort

How long does each course take?

Each course is designed for one week.

What does the Immersion Program include?

The Immersion Programs include classes, coffee and fresh fruit each day at the school, homestay with daily breakfast and dinner, laundry, two afternoon activities each week, and  all course materials.

How are the homestay families?

Our homestay families are chosen for their warm hospitality.  Many of these wonderful families have been part of our homestay program for years. They come from all walks of life and various professions.

Homestays are within walking distance of the Institute and the city center.   You will be provided with a private bedroom, which includes a fan, and a desk or table (so you can do your homework!).  You will also have access to the common areas for visiting and relaxing. Nicoya has an average temperature of 32C (89F).

What afternoon activities are available?

We offer a selection of two afternoon activities each week, free of charge:

• Costa Rican cooking class
• Visit to Farmer’s Market
• Hike to Cerro de la Cruz
• National Parks workshop
• Costa Rica History workshop
• Pronunciation workshop
• Study Hall

How much does it cost each course?

The cost of one week is $699 and we offer a multiple week discount.

Add $250 per week for Super Immersion, six hours of class each day.
