Homestay Nicoya Blue Zone

Experience a homestay in the renowned Blue Zone of Nicoya and see the world through a new perspective.

Nicoya Peninsula is known for being one of 5 unique Blue Zones in the world, where people live longer and healthier.

There are many reasons why people live longer in Blue Zones.  Nicoya offers pure water, traditional nutritious food, a dry tropical climate, a supportive sense of community, and strong family ties.

Costa Rican culture, traditions and outlook on life are defined as “Pura Vida”  -  “Pure Life”.  A homestay will immerse you in the warmth and hospitality of the Costa Rican people.  There may not be the same comforts as in your own home, but you will have the opportunity to enjoy a positive life changing experience while learning Spanish.

Costa Ricans tend to reside longer in the family home and later live in close proximity with each other, creating strong family bonds and values.

Most Costa Ricans live at home until they marry, finish university, or have to move for employment reasons.  However family gatherings and celebrations of special occasions are perfect to keep family ties strong and of course to enjoy a good meal!

Your homestay family will take a genuine interest in you.  The homestay can provide a secure atmosphere and a supportive family environment.

Homestay families will always be willing to help.  They will speak Spanish with you at a comfortable pace.  They are able to assist with making plans for special outings.  They will always do their best to address any general questions or concerns you might have.

Our homestay families are chosen for their warm hospitality.  Many of these wonderful families have been part of the homestay program for years. They come from all walks of life and various professions.

The opportunity to homestay in Nicoya will allow you see beyond the tourist trail.  You will have the chance to gain a richer understanding of culture and traditions, and create lifelong cross-cultural friendships in the process.

Homestays are within walking distance of the Institute and the city centre.   You will be provided with a private bedroom, which includes a fan, and a desk or table (so you can do your homework!).  You will also have access to the common areas for visiting and relaxing. Nicoya has an average temperature of 27C (81F) and therefore most people will shower with refreshing cool water.   Some homes may not have hot water readily available.

Nicoya is a beautiful cultural city.   It offers many extraordinary and somewhat unusual local traditional festivals and activities.  The community spirit keeps the festivities alive, and as part of a homestay family you will be welcome to take part.

So come and visit Nicoya, share time and experiences with a local family while learning Spanish, and enrich your life!
