In Costa Rica, not far from our school there is a small pre-Columbian Chorotega village in our province of Guanacaste.

Guaitil is a beautiful cultural indigenous town.

The native Chorotegas are one of the main indigenous cultures in Costa Rica, and the entire town of Guaitil is dedicated to making pottery using the traditions and techniques of their ancestors.

The secrets of the craft have been passed down through the generations.

The pottery is crafted by first drying the clay and then mashing it until it reaches a powdered form.

After water is added to the mixture, the pottery is shaped, painted and polished using a "sukia" stone, which helps make the artifact shine. Students have the opportunity to practice the skill of pottery crafting.

Enroll in any of our language programs and get a free guided tour to Guaitil.
